Once they drove Napoleon from France in 1815, the terrorists took over again.

They installed their weak puppet figurehead and then they started to frighten the public by killing those who were still loyal to Napoleon. The terrorists got control of the legal system and then they were going to execute Lavallette for running the post office during the short second reign of Napoleon. Lavallette only escaped this injustice because of the heroism of his wife Emilie. The true story of Lavallette is available in English and I’m presently reading it aloud in French.

Cousins Emilie and Hortense de Beauharnais Bonaparte are in the middle. Hortense’s Memoirs are available in English and French. A great deal about Hortense’s Memoirs can be found in the German language here.
