Elvis Costello mentions a quirky mermaid named Miranda from the movie Mad About Men in his comedy/instructional album How To Play Guitar And Y. Now Miranda has “acquired” a guitar and started following his book to learn to sing and play the guitar. This album serves to document the start of her journey. Yes, it’s a bit rough. That’s how it is when you being developing a new skill.
Track 10
“You Know My Name”
The final track of Miranda’s freshman year album is Chris Cornell’s powerful James Bond theme song, “You Know My Name”.
Track 9
“Let It Be”
Being a huge Beatles fan, Miranda is thrilled to try her hand at Paul McCartney’s classic, “Let It Be.”
Track 8
“Give Ireland Back To The Irish”
This catchy Paul McCartney song was banned in England. Apparently the British government doesn’t like critical messages in its state controlled media. Interestingly, the song was banned in the US, too. What does that say about the US media?
Track 7
“Ne Me Quitte Pas”
Miranda just loves this beautiful, haunting song by French master, Jacques Brel.
Track 6
“The Sounds Of Silence”
The one everyone was clamoring for, Miranda’s signature song, the Paul Simon masterpiece, “The Sounds Of Silence.”
Track 5
“Spider-Man Theme”
This fan favorite theme song from the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon was composed by Paul Francis Webster and Bob Harris. Michael Bublé does a particularly swinging big band version.
Track 4
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”
This enduring romance song was written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio.
Track 3
“Glossy Content”
Another Miranda original! She explains how to tell when media is put out by the powers that be.
Track 2
“Those Snakes”
Miranda takes her first shot at writing a song. I’ll give you one guess what it’s all about.
Track 1
“Only You”
The very first release from her very first album! Miranda has taken her first step with the Elvis Costello program to learn to be a rock star. For her debut effort, Miranda plays “Only You,” written by Buck Ram and first performed by The Platters.
