Two days ago Tanster mentioned Henry Kissinger’s appearances on Stephen Colbert’s talk show. It was part of her showcase of the book The Trial of Henry Kissinger by Christopher Hitchens. Here’s a visual reminder with a link to the article:
Then last night funny everyman Ed Helms appeared on Colbert’s show. Helm recalled some advice Colbert had given him when they worked together on The Daily Show back in the day.
“You were very kind and you said, ‘Yes, hang your soul up in the closet. You can come back for it later.’”
Colbert explained himself. “You don’t wanna get anything on it. You don’t want an oil stain on your soul when you’re out there doing a piece.”
Quite the interesting admission from Colbert. He’s acknowledging that his celebrity culture/news satire show is so rife with evil that it permanently taints a person’s soul. I wonder if he’s referencing things like dancing with the notorious Henry Kissinger, a man widely thought of as a war monger?
Fortunately the self-avowed Catholic has found a loophole to having integrity. He has a detachable soul.
