We are also working to learn the truth about Louis Bonaparte. While he was a terrible insanely jealous husband to Hortense, Louis wasn’t that bad with other people. He was a fairly good father. He wrote books defending Napoleon after his brother’s cruel slow murder.
Louis was in an impossible situation being between Hortense and Napoleon. Louis had a bunch of infiltrators who deliberately worked him to whip up the problems that were all too inherent in their difficult situation.
Louis was someone who wrote a great deal and he cared about literature. He was a complicated character and I hope we can learn more about him. The truth is always more interesting than the stories we are told.
It looks to me as if this letter was only signed by Louis and that body of the letter was written by someone else.
