Who wants to get to know Napoleon’s ultra loyal “henchman” Savary, the Duke of Rovigo?

His memoirs are coming up soon!

We have learned a few things already about Savary. He was loyal to Napoleon - always. He had been one of Desaix’s guys. Napoleon took Savary and Rapp under his protection as they were all so distraught about losing the incredibly beloved General Desaix. Napoleon cried out in front of Hortense that he was planning to marry her to Desaix but his heroic death at Marengo put an end to that plan.

Hortense had quite a few complaints about Savary. He blabbed to Napoleon about her affair with de Flahaut. He tried to test her to find out if de Flahaut was sharing his super secret aide de camp intel with her. She said that if a married woman was seen anywhere near a man who wasn’t her husband and Savary saw it her reputation would be ruined.

Meneval said that Savary was beyond nosy.

Rapp said that Napoleon was besides himself that Savary, as Chief of Police, had let a crazy man stage a coup d’état during the ill fated Russia campaign.

Who was Savary?

This picture below is supposed to depict Savary at the moment of losing Napoleon’s presence in his life. Savary was most certainly not the only one who felt this way!
