I have wondered many times if Marie Louise was sent to marry Napoleon for the very reason that her family (the Hapsburgs) believed she was cursed as well.
Marie Louise also told (Napoleon’s secretary) Méneval that she had been born under a “fatal star”. If she spoke of a curse to Napoleon’s intimates this freely, her family must have been aware of their circumstances and of Marie Louise’s beliefs about herself.
