Hortense’s Uranus.

I’m not sure what kind of person Nikola Tesla really was but we’re told he was a quirky genius who really wanted to help people and that he worked with electricity. When I think of Uranus energy, I think of that type of person.

Uranus energy can be very truthful and it can animate that person who would never sell out and who really wants to serve their fellow humans. Uranus can also be the spirit of revolution.

However, it’s not that harmonious an energy. It’s like fireworks, exciting but dangerous and scary.

It comes as no surprise that Hortense has Uranus in her 10th house of fame career.

This Uranus is only making difficult aspects. Uranus is in Cancer (Moon) near Gemini (Mercury). Uranus is square Mercury (Communication) in the 7th house (partnership/Venus) in Pisces (Neptune/Spirit).

I look at difficult aspects as a balancing act where it’s hard to maintain the energy blend in the happy middle. Like a shower that keeps going too hot or too cold.

The themes here are difficulties involving communications, genius, feeling and spirit all involving an important someone else. Hortense wrote about Napoleon. She was spiritually connected to him and her emotions were highly engaged. These realities caused her a life of continual suffering. It’s right there in her chart.

I feel like we should look at all the energies blending with Uranus somewhat as a unified group. Now let’s look at Uranus opposite Saturn.

Saturn is about rules and limitation. Hortense frequently complained at how she found royalty very at odds with the freedom (Uranus) she wanted. She did rebel against her stepfather Napoleon (Saturn) on a few occasions. She adored him and he was quite controlling of her. Uranus in Cancer is kind of shorthand for rebellion in the home and family.

This Saturn is in Capricorn (Saturn) and it is in the 4th house associated with Cancer so the themes above mentioned are only reinforced in these further details.

Uranus is also square Neptune in Libra. Neptune in Libra is a generational placement meaning she shares it with all of her approximate age group. Neptune is emotional and spiritual. Libra is culture and grace. Hortense having these energies in her 1st house of identity is no surprise but she has a difficult aspect, a square with Uranus. This would give her identity the flavor of a disruptive, scary revolutionary.

Hortense, who had committed her life to giving was driven from France and even arrested. The rulers of Europe were accusing her of being the leader of a political party who had brought Napoleon back from Elba. Since the previous was not true, we must imagine that she came off as someone with access to volatile power. We see this in the prominent and difficult placement of Uranus. As you can see it’s not far from the Midheaven.

For your convenience, I’m including an excerpt about the Midheaven below.
