The first thing that blew me away about Napoleon was his skill at writing. Napoleon was also known for “haranguing” his troops. He could really get them whipped up into a frenzy with his words. Will we see Napoleon’s amazing communication ability in his Mercury placement in his natal chart?
First off, Mercury is in Leo.

Mercury is almost conjunct Saturn.
Mercury is opposite the Moon.
Napoleon was a brilliant passionate guy. Not enough is said about how painful it must have been to keep up appearances with his second wife Marie Louise. He felt he had to make a political marriage for peace and once again he was the dupe of the dishonest as that marriage was not made in good faith. If a person surmises what kind of woman Napoleon really liked, a not bright, cold, grave princess who couldn’t even hold her own son in a natural fashion was definitely not his type. But as this was the mother of his son, Napoleon was always very careful about how he talked about her.
We’ve got a T square involving Mercury. It’s almost a fixed grand cross. Here’s some thoughts about T squares.

Let’s also look at this formation as a fixed grand cross. What’s that?

Napoleon’s adamantine will was one of his defining traits. I also have a grand cross (below).
In Napoleon’s grand cross we have Mercury/Saturn in Leo (Sun) / Cancer (Moon) vs. the Moon in Capricorn (Saturn) / Aquarius (Uranus). Pluto in Capricorn is down there too. I’m seeing a jumbled free for all between feelings (Moon), limits from the establishment (Saturn), ambition (Leo) with a strength in communication (Mercury). Then we have at the other pole Jupiter in Scorpio (Pluto, Mars) opposite Uranus in Taurus (Venus). This could be the conflict between what Napoleon really wanted - a loving marriage and children (Taurus/Venus) - Napoleon’s romance novel shows this - and his great destiny (Jupiter) as a revolutionary (Uranus, Pluto, Mars). Napoleon once sort of told off Josephine for suggesting that he wanted to go to war. He said that he would’ve much rather stayed home where he had comfort and food (Taurus). There’s that see saw action of the polarities between Scorpio and Taurus.
Mercury is square Jupiter on the Ascendant, which boosts the importance of this aspect.

Most of the descriptions of this aspect that I read portray Mercury square Jupiter as a big talker lacking in discipline. Napoleon’s discipline was extreme. I think the near conjunction of Mercury to Saturn might lend that sense of discipline to the big talker vibe of Mercury square Jupiter.
Mercury is square Uranus.
