Growing up in the Hamptons, I was aware of the rich people and the papers were full
of pictures of them at their “gala benefits”.
They looked so so happy in the papers and I was in my early twenties when I got a job writing for a periodical in the snottiest town of them all - East Hampton.
I was thrilled I’d get to see what the fun was all about so I asked and the editor let me photograph these parties. The whole time all these people did was pose for pictures and stand around awkwardly with their drinks. I had been a young teenager in Brazil so I knew that these events were NOT PARTIES. They sucked way too much for me to ever call them that.
