I’ve spent a lot of time searching for the Truth about Napoleon. The more I learned, the more I came to view him as heroic. My major issue has been that I’m squeamish and extremely grossed out by violence and war. My concentration has always been “indoor Napoleon”. Basically, what he was like when he wasn’t at war.
Now I’m feeling it’s time to examine the memoirs of Caulaincourt. This was one of Napoleon’s top guys during the disastrous Russian campaign.
First thing pseudo intellectuals tell me is that Napoleon was stupid to invade Russia. According to Napoleon, they were all about to gang up on him again and he had to be proactive. He said this over and over in exile because he knew they were going to act like everything was all his fault when quite the opposite is True.
